Chennai: Five advocates allegedly involved in the murder of another lawyer at a local court have been debarred from practising in courts or having any other lawyer appear on their behalf until completion of disciplinary proceedings against them. The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry issued the orders on Tuesday to this effect.
It passed a resolution to take disciplinary action against the five advocates and said they are prohibited from appearing in person or through any other advocates before any court or tribunal till completion of disciplinary proceedings against them.
The matter relates to the murder of an advocate by a group of fellow advocates in connection with the election held to Egmore Advocates Association recently. The Council said in a note that police had registered a case over the incident which has brought a bad name to advocates in society.
The Council had also issued show cause notice to the Egmore Advocates Association to explain why their recognition should not be cancelled.
