The government has formulated special
programmes for the district to provide sufficient food grains to the BPL
category, said former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa in Yaraballi village on
Wednesday. Minister of Cooperation B J Puttaswamy will look after the implementation,
he said.After inspecting the drought relief and MGNREGA works,
Yeddyurappa said that the government is providing 29 kg of rice and six kg
wheat each at `3 per kg and one kg of sugar at `13.5. The programme is
presently introduced at Chitradurga, Davangere, Bidar and Gulbarga districts,
termed the most backward in the country by the apex court.“Even though ours is the ruling party, I acted as an
opposition leader and ensured that agricultural loans to the tune of 25,000 is
waived,” he said. He promised to conduct a resurvey of pensioners. Yeddyurappa
advised the villagers to use the benefits of MGNREGA and stop migrating.He began his tour from Nayakanahatti and passed through
Neralagunte, Talaku, Meerasabhihalli, Sanikere, Eraballi, Hiriyur, Aymangala,
Vaddikere and Challakere town, ending at Chitradurga.At Ranikere, he said the government had released `16 crore
for development of tanks and feeder channels from Vedavathi river.

Koppal, Davangere and other paddy growing areas.Yeddyurappa urged Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to issue a
circular banning holidays of government employees in the drought-affected
districts. He also requested the Centre to reimburse the loss incurred by the
state government owing to waiver of crop loans.
