Former Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy has announced a reward of Rs 1 crore to anyone who finds his 45-year-old filmmaker son who has been missing since an accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district.
Vetri Duraisamy, 45, reportedly went missing after the car in which he was travelling along with other passengers, fell into the Sutlej River near Pangi Nallah in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday. Duraisamy and his family members have also made an appeal to local people to help them in finding Vetri.
The driver was killed in the incident while one tourist was injured and the other was still missing, officials said.
Vetri Duraisamy was one of two tourists from Tamil Nadu who fell 200 metres down into the river after the driver lost control of the vehicle, they said.
“I have received a WhatsApp message from the missing tourist Vetri’s father Saidai Duraisamy, a former mayor of Chennai. He has announced a reward of Rs 1 crore to anyone who finds his son. His trusted people have also contacted me in this regard,” Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma told the PTI.
The ill-fated vehicle was on its way to Shimla from Kaza when the accident took place.
One of the three tourists, Gopinath (32), sustained serious injuries and was earlier referred to a Shimla hospital. The body of the driver, identified as Tanjin, was recovered on Monday. Search operations were underway to find the missing tourist, police said.
The search teams have recovered remains of a body along the river bank and it has been sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Junga for DNA extraction and analysis, police said in a statement. These remains could belong to the missing person, the police added.
