RAMANATHAPURAM: Four fishermen of Rameswaram who were detained in Sri Lanka for trespassing into its waters reached the Coast Guard base at Mandapam on Thursday evening.Four fishermen—Jayakumar, Sundar, Marimuthu and Prathab of Rameswaram —had ventured into the sea for fishing on May 30. When they failed to return the next day, it was found that they had sought shelter at the Naina Island along the Lankan border after their boat sank due to a gale. They were detained by the police and later remanded in custody.On Wednesday, the Lankan government released the four fishermen. They were then handed over to ICG personnel, and later officials of the fisheries department received the fishermen after conducted an enquiry.
