Freedom 251: Police lodge cheating case against Ringing Bells top brass
Police sources told CNN-IBN that FIR has been filed after their preliminary probe found merit in the complaint by BJP MP Kirit Somaiya.

Police in Noida have registered an FIR against top officials of Ringing Bells, the company which claims to sell the world's cheapest mobile phone at Rs 251.

A case was filed under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (cheating) on a complaint filed by Kirit Somaiya, BJP MP from Mumbai North-East.

The FIR was filed at Noida Phase 3 police station on Tuesday against the company promoter Mohit Goel and president Ashok Chaddha.

In his complaint Somaiya had said that Ringing Bells raised funds by issuing misleading ads and used social media to misguide the public.

Police sources told CNN-IBN that FIR has been filed after their preliminary probe found merit in the complaint by the BJP MP

The sources also said they have asked company officials to show them the manufacturing units where the Freedom 251 mobiles were being manufactured or assembled. Police teams will visit these units, if they exist.

Police have also asked the company officials to submit necessary documents including permissions applied for.
