THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vilappil panchayat has decided to approach the Supreme Court (SC) against the High Court observations. In order to collect the funds needed to file an appeal in SC, the panchayat will convene an all-party meeting on Monday. This was decided in a meeting convened by panchayat president Shobhana Kumari on Friday in the wake of High Court observations.“We will face the CRPF as peacefully as we faced the police last time. The panchayat will stand for the people,” Shobhana Kumari said.“We will take action against institutions working without licence in the panchayat limits. The garbage factory, which secured licence in 1999, has not renewed it after that. I have directed the panchayat secretary to serve notice on the Corporation regarding this,” she said. The panchayat has also decided to file a complaint with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy against the police action which turned violent. “The police beat peaceful protesters, including women and children. We will complain to the CM,” she added. The panchayat committee meeting also said that it was acting according to the laws of the Panchayati Raj. A biogas plant has been set up at the Vilappil market as a model to the Corporation. “They must take some lessons on decentralised waste management,” Shobhana added.
