Gangrape victim records statement

BALASORE: The October 15 gangrape case in Baliapal took a new turn on Saturday with the victim recording her statement before the SDJM against the accused. The victim was taken to the Balasore SP office by lawyer Rituparna Mohanty, who visited the girl’s house at Dahamunda with a fact-finding team on the day.  Giving details, the girl said on October 15 she was given a lift by one Bapunu, an acquaintance, who took her to a rest-shed near Baliapal block instead of college.  The victim was rescued by the locals next morning from under a tree in an unconscious state. Her mother alleged that police did not lodge an FIR though she had approached them the same day at Baliapal.  At the instance of the social activists, police swung into action and registered a case. Balasore SP Rajesh Kumar said stringent action would be initiated against the accused who are absconding.
