DEOGARH: As many as 40 persons have been affected by gastroenteritis at Govindpalli village in Barkote block and condition of 10 of them is stated to be critical. A few days back, similar outbreak was reported from Kadopada village in the block. All the affected persons have been admitted to Kantapali primary health centre (PHC) even as rising number of cases has created panic in the village.
Sources said there are 22 families in the village and there is just one tubewell which caters to the drinking water needs of the village. Whenever the tubewell goes defunct, villagers dig a pit along the village nullah and use the seepage water for drinking. Use of water from this pit could have resulted in the outbreak, sources said. A special team has been dispatched to the village by Deogarh Chief District Medical Officer Prabhakar Nanda and efforts are underway to contain fresh cases.
