BANGALORE: They may be one of the biggest multinational corporations in the world, but in Namma Bengaluru, Google’s ambitious Street View project was stopped on its tracks, barely a few days after it was started.Since then, the company, which claimed to have all necessary clearances from the Ministry of Defence and other ministries, has not yet submitted any of the documents to the city police.Confirming this, Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Sunil Kumar said that the Police have not yet been given any documents which they sought from the company. “We are still waiting that they (Google) will present the necessary papers,” he said and added that only then could further action on the case be taken forward. He had earlier stated that if the company were unable to provide the paper work, then they could be liable for legal action as well. Attributing the requirements for clearance, he stated that the city has many ‘sensitive’ defence establishments, laboratories and it is imperative to have necessary clearances.Meanwhile, the company sources said that, though they did not yet have the permission, talks were ongoing on the matter - a claim which was refuted by Sunil Kumar.“When they have not submitted any of the papers, what can we look into or discuss?” he questioned. Street View was meant to capture images of public roads which were being captured using Google cars and Trikes.Google had launched the Street View project in the city on May 26, but soon was forced to stop their activities until all required documents were submitted.
