New Delhi: Senior counsel Gopal Subramanium, who has withdrawn his consent to be considered for a Supreme Court judge's position, on Wednesday said he has done it over principles and as a matter of principle and to save his honour and dignity.
"I am not here to offer myself for continuous scrutiny. I have established my credibility. Intelligence Bureau cleared my name on May 15th. I don't want any character certificate from anyone except myself," Subramanium told reporters at his office.
"Nobody could have withstood a rubbish like this," Subramanium said referring to the verification reports in the media.
Gopal Subramanium along with senior counsel Rohinton Nariman and chief justices of two high courts were recommended for appointment as the judge of the Supreme Court.
However, the government cleared all names except his.
Subramanium appeared baffled with the silence of the Supreme Court collegium on his pick and choose by the government.
