KOCHI: The inmates of the Government Girls’ Home in Kakkanad have every reason to rejoice as the district administration has taken steps to revamp it. District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said that they have submitted a project proposal worth Rs 4.5 crore to Public Works Department (PWD) for the same. “We expect the higher-ups to approve the project within two weeks,” he said.The project is designed to give top priority the security concern of the shelter home. “The security of the juvenile home has always raised serious concerns. Measures will be taken to beef up the security,” he said. An activity centre will be the main attraction of the project. “We are planning a domicile for inmates which will have vocational training centres, library and the like. Benny Behnan MLA has promised to give 10 computers for the centre. In addition to this, 10 sewing machines will also be made available,” Pareeth added.The plans include the appointment of a female security guard and a driver for the centre. Also, arrangements will be made to constitute a team of doctors to provide medical aid for the inmates once in a month. The Collector said that the best hands will be made available from good institutes including government polytechnics to train the inmates.
