BANGALORE: Government officials were introduced to the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) mooted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency in 2007, in a twoday workshop held in the city on Wednesday. The workshop was jointly organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL).The code aims to make buildings with a connection of 500KW and above, energy efficient by implementing construction practices which would reduce the energy consumed by the building. The workshop on Wednesday consisted of presentations by energy economist Sanjay Seth and other project managers who shared details of their project with the gathered officials to make them understand the logistics of implementing the ECBC in the state. The ECBC is a detailed code which lists out suggestions for various construction phases of a building in order to make it more efficient in terms of the energy consumed. The government plans on implementing it in all public owned buildings before pushing it in commercial buildings. The workshop on Wednesday sought to set a timeframe for the implementation of the ECBC in the state and also discussed various amendments that to be made in order to implement it in Karnataka.Presentations will be made on Thursday for interested people from the private and commercial sector wishing to implement ECBC for their buildings.
