CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced seven per cent hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees with retrospective effective from July 1, 2011. The hike follows the Central government’s decision to hike the DA for its employees from 51 per cent to 58 per cent  with effect from July 1, 2011. The arrears for July, August and September will be paid in cash immediately, as per orders signed by the Finance Secretary K Shanmugam.The hike will also apply to the teaching and non-teaching staff of government-aided educational institutions, employees of local bodies, employees governed by the University Grants Commission/All India Council for Technical Education scales of pay, the teachers in government and aided polytechnics and special institutions, village assistants, noon meal organisers, child welfare organisers, anganwadi workers, cooks, helpers and assistants, among others.Meanwhile, the State government announced an ad hoc increase for those drawing consolidated pay/fixed pay/honorarium with effect from July 1, 2011.  For those drawing upto Rs. 600 per month from January 1, 2006 would be given a hike of  Rs. 20 per month while those who are drawing above Rs. 600 would be given a hike of Rs. 40 per month. The arrears of ad hoc increase for the months of July, August and September 2011 will be paid in cash immediately. The hike will also apply to the employees of local bodies, over-head tank operators and sweepers working in Rural Development and Panchayats.
