Granite quarrying may resume

KARWAR: The proposal for granite quarrying in forest region is on the final stage of approval, informed sources in the DC’s office and in the office of the district conservator of forests here.As per the decision of the government, the Forest Department has identified two places in each of the 11 taluks in the district for granite quarrying. The principal conservator of forests had forwarded the proposal to the Ministry for Forests and Environment (MoEF) for clearance. Even the conservator of forests attached to the ministry recommended this for its approval, said sources in the department.In view of these facts, it is likely that the ministry would give its approval shortly.
