New Delhi: A ‘gentleman cadet’ was killed in an accidental grenade blast at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, on Friday.
The mishap occurred during a training session. According to IMA sources, the grenade went off accidentally, killing the cadet on the spot. He has been identified as VK Tiwari.
A Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) was seriously injured in the incident. The incident occurred during a live training exercise.
An Army spokesman said the grenade exploded when the NCO was imparting training to the cadets. The dead cadet B K Tiwari, who hailed from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, received shrapnel injuries and succumbed to them in the IMA hospital, he said.
The condition of the instructor-NCO, whose identity was not immediately available, was stated to be serious.
The Army has ordered a court of inquiry to probe the first-ever incident of its kind in IMA.
