HYDERABAD: Festivals are about celebrating together and having a good time. After Dasara and Diwali, Hyderabadis have one more reason to party -- Halloween. From MNC employees, who have their offices playing the host, to students, the horror fest offers a perfect excuse to be part of a costume party. Many of the MNC and BPO employees in the city who worked through Diwali found Friday a refreshing break with Jack o’ lanterns and colleagues who turned up in costumes. “It was a welcome change at office and members of one of the teams came dressed as the Adam’s family for the party at the end of the day,” says Sandhya Shankaran, who celebrated her first Halloween, courtesy office. The celebrations scheduled for October 31 were celebrated by the corporate offices well in advance. It is celebrated on the eve of All Saints Day and is mainly a feature of the US, Canada and a few European countries including Ireland and Scotland.Catching up with the trend, Hyderabadis find the occasion a reason enough to go partying and invite friends home. “My children took to the festival after reading about it in the Harry Potter series. They have a get-together usually of their friends who stay close by,” says D Sangeetha, a mother of two, who will host the party for the second year on Monday. Though there will be no pumpkin juice, the trick-or-treat tradition will be followed, promises the homemaker. The festival which commemorates the dead and souls in purgatory might sound spooky to some, but clubs around the city are leaving no stone unturned to woo customers with special Halloween night celebrations.
