Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to handover the Abhishek Mishra death case to CBI.

Abhishek, a close friend of Lalu Yadav’s daughter Ragini had accompanied her with few friends to Dassam Falls, where he was found dead later. Abhishek’s death under mysterious circumstances and police instantly passing it off as an “accidental” made the case even murkier.

The Court has now asked the state government to pass on all the documents to CBI which said that Abhishek had drowned after slipping into the Dassam Falls on December 8, last year.

The court's direction came after its December 21 suo motu cognisance of a letter addressed to it by Abhishek's father, Subhas Chandra Mishra, requesting a CBI probe into the matter.

The bench also took note of Chief Minister Madhu Koda's rejection of opposition’s demand for a CBI probe in the case besides the hurried announcement made by police that Abhishek had died due to drowning.

Abhishek's father, a doctor with the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Delhi, protested against the "urgency" shown by the police in describing the matter as a "natural death", just 15 minutes after conducting the post-mortem.

He also claimed that the post-mortem report did not indicate presence of water in the respiratory system and external injuries on his son's body. The police too did not take a second opinion on the report.
