The police will maintain tight vigil across the city on Thursday owing to the hartal.
Since there is a possibility of violence breaking out after the arrest of CPM district secretary P Jayarajan in the Shukkoor murder case, about 5,000 police personnel will be deployed across the state.
According to police officials, Kochi Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar has directed that all police personnel should be vigilant and that immediate action should be taken in the event of violence breaking out in any part of the city.
“We have been directed that policemen, along with armed policemen in the AR Camp, are to be deployed in every part of the city. Besides, police vehicles and the control-room will be on alert from dawn to dusk. The security at the High Court and other sensitive areas will also be stepped up. The Quick Response Team will be ready to act if required. Surveillance cameras will be used for monitoring the law and order situation in the city,” the police official said.
The Shadow Police will also be deployed at railway stations and bus-stands. The Railway police and the Railway Protection Force will be vigilant as well.
