TIRUNELVELI: Responding to Puthiya Tamilagam leader K Krishnasamy’s statement that he would have participated in the struggle if it had “truly been from the public’s side”, People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) coordinator S P Udayakumar pointed out that Krishnasamy had participated in the campaign against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in October 2009.Udayakumar said that during the campaign, Krishnasamy had said that the government should close down the plant and it should not bother about spending money on KKNPP.He said that Krishnasamy was speaking in a different voice now. “We do not know what compulsion made him to speak like this now. He should come and see the protest. As he is a Dalit leader, he should not belittle the protest of the downtrodden,” he said. The PMANE coordinator reiterated, “we have not received even a single rupee from any foreign country or foreign agency. We have adopted the Gandhian way of struggle, with the donations we receive from fishermen, farmers, merchants and Dalit workers.” Udayakumar added, “our campaign against the plant has very simple needs and we spend as little money as possible. We provide only water to the prote stors. They are taking care of their travel expenses.”
