The Devas Chundan team won the race, and the runner-up was Karichal Chundan. Based on a petition filed by Karichal, the jury of appeal disqualified Devas. With the order, the winner was also disqualified from participating in the boat race in future. T S Kaladharan, owner and sponsor of Devas Chundan, and Abraham Koshy, team member of the Jesus Boat Club, then filed a petition before the Kerala High Court challenging the disqualification.
