KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)to submit the details of the toll collection on the Mannuthy-Edappally stretch.A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon passed the order while considering a batch of petitions challenging toll collection on the stretch. The court issued notices to state government and the NHAI. The court also considered a petition seeking CBI probe into the toll collection but refused to issue notices to the CBI stating that there is no need to drag the agency into each and every cases. The petitioners pointed out that the private company authorised for toll collection is charging exorbitant fee. According to the petitioners, the national highway from Angamaly to Mannuthy was already widened but the company is collecting toll for the whole stretch. An independent inquiry was essential to find out the role of officials of the NHAI.
