Bangalore: The High Court on Thursday directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike to demolish illegal toilets constructed on the footpath of 3rd Cross, Sudhamanagar (ward 118) near Lalbagh saying footpaths were meant for pedestrians and not for toilets and transformers.
During the hearing of a petition filed by resident Sunita Devi, in front of whose house the toilets have come up, Justice Ram Mohan Reddy said, “How many toilets have been constructed on footpaths in Bangalore? You have to demolish all toilets constructed on footpaths."
"SC and HC orders make it clear that footpaths cannot be used for any other purpose. Strict action should be initiated against chief engineers and the assistant executive engineer,” Justice Reddy observed. Justice Reddy also orally directed BBMP to ensure public spaces are not encroached upon and ordered action against the engineers who built the public toilet.
