KOCHI: As part of its noble venture to redress the growing number of suicidal cases in the city, ‘Chaitram’ in association with the Corporation and Kochi unit of NSS, organised a seminar on prevention of suicide at TDM Hall in Kochi on Friday.Inaugurating the programme, Dominic Presentation MLA said suicide rates are increasing day by day and people must be given awareness in this regard. The hectic lifestyle has put tremendous pressure on people which is the reason for the the increasing rate of suicide in the city, he said. He lauded the service of ‘Chaitram’ in its efforts towards bringing down suicide incidents in the city.Later, psychiatrist Dr S D Singh in his presentation said that suicide rates can be reduced by diagnosing and treating the patient. He added that parents and guardians must identify the problem and seek the help of councillors. The suicidal tendency can be curtailed by counselling and guidance, he said. All councillors of the Corporation attended the programme.
