HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has decided to urge the state government to increase water tariff, to sustain the Board in the long-run.HMWS&SB authorities are hopeful the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy who is also the chairman of Water Board would give nod for increase in water tariff for commercial consumers during the board meeting on August 26.Water tariff hike for all consumers was last done in 2002 and for bulk consumers in 2007.“If the government is not keen to increase the tariff, than the Board would ask the state government to give subsidy to save the Water Board,” officials told Express. The Board wants hike from `35 to `40 per kilolitre for commercial consumers and for domestic sector up from `6 to `10 per KL up to 15 KL.Of the collected revenues of `35 to `38 crore per month, 75 to 80 percent is going towards payment of power tariff to AP Transco which is `24 crore per month and `15 crore towards employee salaries, Board officials said.“So either the government should allow increase in tariff or provide subsidy to run the Board. The Water Board is presently suffering from a monthly revenue deficit of `16 crore and accumulated revenue deficit of over `200 crore,” they added. The board meeting is also expected to give nod for taking up of the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) costing `1,670 crore has been submitted to the state government for approval. The project aims to supply an additional 90 million gallons of water per day (MGD) to the city and to villages along the pipeline route in Nalgonda and Rangareddy districts.
