Alleging the Samajwadi Party-led government in Uttar Pradesh was carrying out large-scale transfer of administrative officials ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the Congress today demanded holding of elections in the state under watchful eyes of the Central forces.
"Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, the UP government has been carrying out massive administrative transfers.
"We request the Election Commission to conduct the polls in the state under watchful eyes of the Central forces," Chairman of the communication cell of the Congress and senior leader Satyadeve Tripathi said.
Congress vice-presient Rahul Gandhi will arrive in the state capital on February 28, he said.
He will meet Anganwadi workers and those who prepare mid-day meals in Chinhat and later leave for a roadshow in neighbouring Barabanki district, Tripathi said.
The next day he will leave for Varanasi and offer prayers at the Kanshi Vishwanth temple before holding a meeting with rickshaw-pullers.
He will also address a meeting in Mirzapur, Tripathi said.
