As the temperatures are soaring day by day with the onset of the summer, all of us are trying to find respite in cold beverages that help keep our bodies cool. These cool beverages also help us keep our body hydrated, an essential thing to do in the summer season. Rose milk is a refreshing and fragrant summer drink that blends rose syrup with chilled milk. It is a summer favourite and can be found for sale in many kiosks by the roadside.
But just like any other consumable products sold outdoors, there may be a risk of adulteration in shop-made rose milk. Many experts believe that artificial pigments are added to rose milk sold by the roadside to enhance their taste. These artificial substances can cause health hazards and hence an alternative is to make rose milk at home in a safe manner.
To make the rose syrup, only the petals of the rose flower should be separated. Separated rose petals should be kept covered in boiling water for the first night before making the syrup.
The following day, the essence of the rose petals will have been thoroughly infused into the water. Then, strain the mixture and transfer it to a pot lined with grass film, ensuring a thorough boil. Let one litre of water simmer until it reduces to half a litre, then add sugarcane or sugar and continue boiling.
Once the syrup reaches a boil, remove it from heat, squeeze in some lemon juice, and allow it to cool. Then, pour the syrup into a bottle and store it. Your homemade rose syrup is now ready. You can use this syrup to make pressed rose syrup senju and rose milk senju. Then pour some chilled milk into a glass, pour the syrup carefully into it and stir. Your delicious summer beverage is now ready.
