HYDERABAD: The polluted Hussainsagar will be restored to its pristine glory by March 2013, according to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Inaugurating the Interception and Diversion structure at Necklace road to divert sewage from Kukatpally nala on Saturday, he said out of Rs. 370 crore sanctioned under the Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project, about Rs. 122.65 crore has been spent. He also inspected modern jet fountains and upgrading of a 20 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant. The chief minister asked officials to speed up pending projects on a war-footing to ensure cleaner environment around Hussainsagar and beautify the area. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has taken up the HCI project with major source of funding from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency.The I&D structure was completed a few months back at a cost of Rs. 20 crore. Kiran Kumar Reddy also inaugurated modern jet fountains imported from the US which have been installed on Tank Bund, NTR Marg and Necklace road at a cost of Rs. 1.32 crore. Each fountain goes up to a height of 20 metres. He also inspected the upgraded 20 MLD Hussainsagar STP. Other works under HCIP like constructing ring and trunk sewers, a new 30 MLD STP at Picket nala are under various stages of completion. Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and others were present.
