THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Against the backdrop of the five IAS officials, including Sheela Thomas and Anand Singh, named in the vigilance FIR in the land transaction case involving Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, the IAS Officers Association has decided to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy expressing their concern over implicating IAS officers in Vigilance cases. In a meeting held here on Monday the IAS Officers Association also formed a sub-committee and decided to provide all legal support to its members, who are facing Vigilance cases. Other than discussing the land transaction case in particular, the meeting also discussed similar Vigilance cases in which IAS officers were framed without any genuine grounds.  Majority of the officers agreed in the meeting that the Vigilance cases face undue delay, which affects the career of those in civil service, including their promotions and key postings.  The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has named five IAS officers including Sheela Thomas, who was the principal secretary to the Chief Minister in the Achuthanandan ministry; Anand Singh, the former Kasargod District Collector and K R Muraleedharan, the then Land Revenue Commissioner, in the land transaction case.  The case has been registered by the VACB with Achuthanandan as the first accused and seven others for alleged irregularities in assigning 2.33 acres of land to his relative K P Soman, an ex-serviceman, at Sherny village in Kasargod district during the previous LDF rule.
