CHENNAI: On account of International Nurses’ Day, leading multi-specialty hospital Fortis Malar organised a Walkathon for Child Immunisation from Besant Nagar Beach to the hospital premises in Adyar. The walkathon received enthusiastic response from over 100 participants from the nursing community.  The rally flagged off by Senior Consultant Pediatrician, Dr G Prabhakaran, Fortis Malar. It was aimed at creating awareness on the significance of immunisation amongst children. Regular immunisation improves a child’s health by significantly lowering incidence of polio, diphtheria, tetanus, etc. Timely and routine immunisation is advised to prevent the onset of these crippling diseases. The event planned as part of the week-long celebration for nurses at the hospital received enthusiastic participation from nursing community. Commenting on the occasion, Dr G Prabhakaran said “I am proud to be associated with this Walkathon. Immunisation is crucial to a healthy childhood as it can prevent the onset of serious infections and disease. If the community has a proactive approach to immunisation, we can avert epidemics and eradicate many diseases.” The hospital also conducted a community outreach programme on breast feeding and recreational activities in honour of International Nurse’s Day.
