Shimla: Unable to address a poll rally in person in a snow-bound Himachal Pradesh district, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh Tuesday found a novel way out. He made the speech on his mobile phone from Shimla which was relayed by a loud speaker.
"Since our helicopter could not land at Shillai in Sirmaur district and there were thousands of people waiting in the intense cold and snow BJP party president Rajnath Singh decided to make the speech on his mobile from Shimla, which was relayed via loud speaker to the waiting crowd at," said Satpal Jain, BJP spokesperson here. Shillai is 150 km away from Shimla.
"The experiment actually worked and the voice quality was quite good. People were able to hear the speech clearly on the loud speakers at the rally spot," Jain explained.
Snow, rain and cold have severely affected election campaigning in the state for the second consecutive day Tuesday. Congress president Sonia Gandhi had to cancel her two rallies in Kangra and Mandi district.
The second and last phase of polling for 65 assembly seats takes place on December 19. Counting starts December 28.
