Raipur: Close on the heels of the brutal killing of senior Congress leaders of Chhattisgarh near Jagdalpur on Saturday, the local police and the Central paramilitary forces have launched an anti-Naxal operation in the forests of Bastar.
The security forces have swung into action to nab the Naxals who carried out the September 25 massacre after attacking the Congress's Parivartan Yatra. More than 1,000 security forces have been deployed in the forests of Naxal-hit Bastar as part of the operations.
Chhattisgarh DGP Ramniwas has confirmed the deployment of the forces in the Bastar region. According to DGP Ramniwas, police have got clues about the mastermind behind the brutal attack.
Notably, one personnel of the state police has been missing since the attack on the Parivartan Yatra. The security forces are also trying to know about his whereabouts.
It has been estimated that the number of Naxals, who executed the deadly plan, must have been between 500 and 1,000. Security agencies have inferred that Naxals from neighbouring states like Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra must have come together to execute the plan.
The Naxals take advantage of the hilly and densely forested terrain in Bastar and easily flee after committing big strikes. Keeping this in mind, several state governments had planned a joint crackdown on the Naxals in the past but could not succeed.
There have been several other reasons behind the failure of anti-Naxal operations. The security personnel deployed in the inhospitable Bastar jungles are devoid of basic facilities.
They have to spend several days in the forests with only a few water bottles and dried food items. They are forced to consume unhealthy water from rivulets and canals. During the summers, the sources of local rivers gets dried up, adding to their misery even as they constantly6 face the threat of an attack by a large and heavily armed Naxal group.
