MYSORE: The inauguration of the state-level Kala Mela at Urban Haat on Saturday turned out to be a messy affair with none of the guests arriving on time. A batch of school children, who were brought to the inaugural function, appeared tired of waiting for guests for two hours. It was morning classes for children and after class hours, they were brought to the inaugural function. According to sources, as the Urban Haat is away from the city and knowing that many people would not turn up for the function, University of Mysore Examination Registrar Ramu and chairman of Mysore Dasara Kala Mela Sub-Committee had asked officials to bring children to the inauguration of Kala Mela. Speaking to Express, Geethanjali, who had exhibited her work, said, “When lakhs of rupees were sanctioned to the committee, why are CAVA workers deputed for duty. The event has become a low key affair. It doesn’t look like a state-level event.” Weather Blows Away Ballooning Inclement weather prevented adventure sports enthusiasts from taking off to the skies at the hot air balloon event organised by the National Adventure Foundation (NAF) on Oval Grounds in the city on Saturday. On the second day of the event, only 45 persons were able to enjoy the rare opportunity while more than 100 others, mostly youth, returned home disappointed. NAF director Rukmini Chandran said that in the morning session, as many as 45 persons took to the skies. They were flown to a maximum height of 200-250 feet depending on the pace of the wind. The trips ended in 7-10 minutes.
