KOCHI: The Southern Naval Command celebrated Independence Day in the traditional military manner. Vice-Admiral K N Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding-in- Chief, Southern Naval Command, reviewed a ceremonial parade at the Command Parade Ground. The parade was attended by 36 armed and unarmed platoons.Prior to arriving for the parade, the Admiral paid tributes at the War Memorial at the Naval Base. The President’s Colours awarded to Southern Naval Command were also paraded accompanied by a 50-men guard. The Southern Naval Command was also in attendance.In his address to the personnel on parade, Vice- Admiral Sushil reminded them of the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and dwelt upon the idea of nationhood. The Admiral also said that the challenges of terrorism, coastal security and piracy would be dealt with in a resolute manner. The parade was witnessed by a large gathering of Naval personnel and schoolchildren. The parade was led by Commander Paramjit Singh.The Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) Regional Bench, Kochi, too celebrated Independence Day in a befitting manner. Lt Gen Thomas Mathew, Administrative member, AFT, Kochi, hoisted the National Flag and conveyed the Independence Day message. AFT Kochi registrar K P Jayaprakash Narayanan, deputy registrar K A Maridas, legal officials of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, advocates and other staff of the Tribunal, along with family members, attended the celebrations.
