In an effort to take their strained relationship forward, India and Pakistan on Thursday agreed to maintain peace along the border. Both the sides have agreed to open more channels of communication and no new defence related construction along Indo-Pak border.
India and Pakistan on Thursday began a three-day DG-level border dialogue. A 16-member Pakistani delegation on Thursday reached the BSF headquarters for the talks that are being held between after a gap of over one-and-a-half years.
BSF was keen to take up the issue of infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan, with the particular case being the recent one in which the infiltrators struck in Gurdaspur and Udhampur.
Pakistan had in August sent confirmation and agenda for these DG-level talks despite it calling off the meeting of the NSAs of the two countries a fortnight ago after India made it clear that Kashmiri separatist leaders would not be allowed to meet Pakistani NSA Sartaj Aziz during his visit.
The meeting between the Rangers and the BSF was one of the three key meetings agreed upon between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Nawaz Sharif when they met in Ufa in Russia in July.
