India upbeat on bringing '14 Asiad back
The Indian Olympic Association is confiding in the support from majority nations to host the 2014 Asian Games.

New Delhi: The verdict will be out on April 17 on whether the Capital will secure the rights to host the Asian Games in 2014, and the Indian Olympic Association is confiding in the support from majority nations.

The General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia will decide the candidate city when its 45-member countries meet to vote in Kuwait on April 17.

Punjab Olympic Association president and former IOA member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa told PTI from Patiala that "India was the country to host the first ever Asian Games in 1951 and we were successful in hosting the 1982 edition also. It will be 32 years since then and it should be our turn to host the mega event again."

Dhindsa is part of the Indian delegation to seal New Delhi's fate in Kuwait, along with IOA President Suresh Kalmadi, Secretary General Randhir Singh and Union Minister Renuka Chowdhry.

New Delhi is vying for the hosting rights with South Korea's representative city Incheon.

"We have the 2010 Commonwealth Games and by then our infrastructure will be ready for the 2014 Asian Games," Dhindsa added.

South Korea last hosted the Asian Games in Busan in 2002 and IOA's Secretary General Randhir Singh attaches this particular reason to go in New Delhi's favour.

"If one goes by rotational system, now is the turn of the Games to come to South Asia and India would be the perfect host."
