London: After Madrid and New York, fashionistas focused on the London Fashion week which kicked off on Monday.
Among the designers who will be showcasing their spring summer 2007 collection are two Indian designers - Ashish Gupta and Manish Arora.
London-based Ashish Gupta's range had a very Egyptian-holiday feel to it. From loose, column silhouettes in bright techni-colour to sack dresses in black and muted tones and the modern spin on the pantsuits of the 70s.
Block bangles, face paint and the curious hairdos accessorised the collection.
It was a collection inspired by ancient Egypt and African band called Labionda. I am doing dark colors at the moment- black, metallic and subdued colours,” said Gupta.
And with Manish Arora came the flood - a flood of colours that is. For his third show in London, whatever Arora showcased at the India Fashion Week last month, found itself back on the ramp for another airing.
The hens and roosters were replaced by their more exotic cousins. Voluminous tops and dresses offset by shimmering stockings and structured trousers and a whole flurry of different fabrics.
“The idea behind was life is beautiful. So there are animal prints, birds, sunset, everything that inspired me in those two months which tell me life is beautiful,” said Arora.
While Ashish Gupta's collection was more dark and subtle, Manish Arora's was a riot of colors. Both designers may be different in their approach and style but both are now regulars on the London fashion circuit.
