DHENKANAL: The five dengue cases reported from Bhusan Steel Limited (BSL) turned the spotlight on the company and its unhygienic surrounding. The district health authorities have directed the company to immediately fix things up at its various industry sites. A team headed by CDMO B C Behera found garbage dumps, water-logging and unused tyres on the premises. The BSL management has been asked to clean up the area in four days, following which a letter will be sent to the Industries Department regarding the deplorable state of affairs, Behera added. The company has also been asked to spread awareness on dengue in nearby villages.Recently, a House Committee of the State Assembly headed by Prafulla Mallick visited BSL and rapped the management for the unhealthy working conditions. Locals too took up the issue of lack of sanitation with the committee. Similar directives have been issued to BRG Group of Companies. District Collector Bishnu Prasad Panda too has asked industries to initiate preventive measures and regular cleanliness drive on their premises. Meanwhile, Odapada Tehsildar Binod Kumar Jena conducted a meeting in the presence of representatives of industrial units, which have agreed to take immediate action. Navbharat Ventures Limited, LANCO and BSL have reportedly started disinfecting the work sites.
