HYDERABAD: Intermediate first year Telugu Akademi textbooks for MPC and BiPC groups (English medium) get dearer by more than twice the existing price as the Akademi has upgraded the quality, besides revising its syllabus on par with the NCERT books.The Board of Intermediate Education has revised the books following the announcement made by the Union HRD Ministry to introduce ISEET (Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test) and NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) from next academic year. It has been done to facilitate Telugu students to prepare for the two national entrance tests. Prices of the MPC books (Maths-1A, Maths 1B, Physics, and Chemistry) was `500 last year which has now risen to `1,350. And, for BiPC group books (Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology), the prices becomes dearer by `650. BiPC books will now be available at `1,100.Speaking to Express, Prof K Yadagiri, director of Telugu Akademi, said, “for the first time, Intermediate first year textbooks have been printed in multi colour to provide a better quality. Printing and the processing charges has shot up the cost.We have raised the prices based on the recommendations of expert panel,” he added. Damodara Rajanarisimha, deputy chief minister and minister for higher education, and Kolusu Parthasarathi, minister for secondary education, will release the books on May 26.Yadagiri said, they had printed 2 lakh copies of each of the first year science subject books, and efforts was being made to distribute them by June 1. However, as the Akademi is still working on the translation of the Telugu medium books, Telugu medium students have to wait until June 15 to get the textbooks for first year.P Madhusudhan Reddy, general secretary of Govt Junior Lecturers Association, has demanded the government to decrease the price as it would a burden on poor students.
