Karachi: Pakistan has urged International Cricket Council to give a ruling on the availability of captain Inzamam-ul-Haq for next month's Champions Trophy in India at the earliest.
Sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board said discussions had been held with two senior ICC officials on the Inzamam issue.
"They have promised to get back to us today with a definite answer on what we can do," sources said.
Member Boards have to announce their Champions Trophy squads by September 7 but Pakistan is facing a dilemma over the selection of Inzamam.
The Pakistan captain is due to attend a disciplinary hearing of the ICC on September 27, 28 to face charges of ball tampering and bringing the game into disrepute following the Oval Test fiasco.
"The fact is that the selection of Inzamam is a problem right now. Because we don't know what will happen at the hearing and if he is banned whether we can seek a replacement," they said.
Pakistan's chief selector, Wasim Bari is already in London to consult with the team management and Board Chairman Shaharyar Khan before announcing the Champions Trophy squad.
