BALASORE: Perturbed over frequent unscheduled power cuts, irate residents of Dewanpatana, Patrapada and adjoining villages on Monday set the section-II electricity office at Sunhat on fire destroying official documents, furniture and equipment. Sources said the residents had been facing untold miseries for the last few days due to unscheduled power cuts. The situation aggravated when a transformer caught fire three days back. As though it was not enough, the electricity supply company resorted to about five-hour power cut unannounced on Sunday. Police sources said the villagers got infuriated when they did not find any official at the section office where they had gone to lodge a complaint. An eyewitness said they first ransacked the office and damaged some important documents before setting the office on fire. The office furniture, equipment and documents were reduced to ashes. The police reached the spot with fire tender officials but by then the fire had devoured the office. While not a single senior officer of the Nesco agreed to come on record, police said though 12 hours had passed, no FIR was lodged in this regard. “The office has been set ablaze but none has filed any complaint,” said Pravas Kumar Panigrahi, Town Police Station IIC.
