ISI agents appointed in Assam: report
Pak ISI agents are working in Assam’s Social Welfare Dept, the Opposition Asom Gana Parishad has alleged in a report.

Guwahati: Pakistan’s ISI agents are working in Assam’s Social Welfare Department and 250 people of a particular community have been given jobs illegally, the Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) alleged on Wednesday, quoting from what it said was a secret government report.

Presenting a copy of a ‘probe’ before reporters, AGP General Secretary Dilip Saikia said, "the shocking finding was made by a secret police inquiry that of the 300 appointments made, 250 belonged to a particular community with some of them being ISI agents".

The purported report was submitted in July last year following an order from Deputy Inspector General of Police (Vigilance and Anti-Corruption) to Deputy Superintendent of Police Harmohan Kakoti to conduct an inquiry into corruption allegations in the Welfare Department.

The report allegedly states, "It is learnt from my secret sources that of the 250 candidates (of a particular community) appointed, some suspected ISI agents are also appointed".

Pointing out that "it is very dangerous for (the) security of the state in the near future", Kakoti, in his report, suggested that court be moved for collection of the required documents directly and the facts be ascertained.

The AGP has dashed off letters to the Prime Minister, Assam Governor, Union Ministers of Home Affairs and Social Justice, Opposition leader in Lok Sabha, demanding a CBI inquiry as the matter had "serious ramification on the internal security of the country".

The report revealed the then Social Welfare Department Director and his deputy made the appointments without following established procedures and compulsory police verifications.
