BANGALORE: Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has said that the certain defeat of the BJP in the forthcoming byelections to Assembly from Koppal will establish the unpopularity of the government. “At the same time, the victory of the JD (S) will also prove who — whether we or the Congress — the real Opposition is. I have received feedback from party cadre as well as independent sources about the ground reality in Koppal. I am confident of our party’s victory,” he said in an exclusive chat with Express here on Monday.Denying that the charges of corruption levelled against him would affect his party’s chances in the bypoll, Kumaraswamy said, “By the same logic, the BJP’s chances of victory is also ruled out. The allegations of corruption against me have no substance... But the defeat of the BJP is certain. We will halt the BJP’s electoral victory spree in Koppal.” “The BJP is vertically divided between B S Yeddyurappa, D V Sadananda Gowda, Ananth Kumar and K S Eshwarappa. The BJP cadre are angry because a rank outsider has been given ticket. Moreover, our workers are equally determined to defeat Karadi Sanganna, who betrayed our party.”He added that the party will send the right message to the Congress and BJP.
