New Delhi: In yet another bomb scare on a plane, a Jet Airways flight made an emergency landing in Muscat on Thursday afternoon following a security alert. The Jet flight 9W 536 with 61 people on board was on its way from Mumbai to Dubai but had to be diverted to Muscat after the threat.
Jet Airways confirmed that the plane was diverted to Muscat after a tweet warned about a bomb.
Jet Airways issued a statement which read, "Jet Airways flight 9W 536 which departed from Mumbai at 12:46 PM for Dubai has been diverted to Muscat due to security alert. Flight with 54 passengers and 7 crew on board landed at Muscat airport at 1:20 PM. All passengers and crew have been deplaned and taken to the airport terminal. Local agencies are on the location."
Sources said that Indian intelligence agencies have been told about the security threat.
This is the second major bomb scare in a week after a Turkish Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport following a bomb threat in the national capital on Tuesday.
The Turkish Airlines flight TK-65 with 134 passengers was on its way from Bangkok to Istanbul. It was flying over the Indian airspace when some crew members saw the message "bomb in cargo" written on the mirror of a washroom.
All the passengers and crew members were deplaned and the plane was thoroughly searched. The bomb threat message was later found to be hoax.
