Jammu: After the recent spate of attacks on mobile towers in Jammu and Kashmir, sources have said the North Kashmir wing of Hizbul Mujahideen 'Lashkar-e-Islam' is behind the attacks. However, there are reports that there is no such organisation.
Centre is liely to ask the state government to relocate the towers to safer areas.
The 1,058 towers, out of the 2,903 towers of various telecom companies installed across Kashmir Valley, had been shut down due to attacks and threats by terrorists to landlords in whose premises the equipment were installed, according to sources.
Sopore was the worst-hit area where all but two of the 177 towers were shut down in the wake of a series of attacks by terrorists in which two persons died and three were injured.
The sources said police has been able to restore 59 towers mostly hub sites and those located close to security forces camps and police stations.
Jammu and Kashmir DIG Garib Das said, "we are trying to restore the communication network government. 5-10 per cent are still left. Most networks of all cell operators are working right now."
