The J&K government said such acts are aimed at causing discord among the people of different faiths.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday asked the Centre to block the anti-Islam video on social networking sites as it could trigger law and order problem in the state.

"We have requested the nodal agency in the Union IT ministry to block the video," state Home Secretary BR Sharma said.

He said the content of the video was deemed offensive and could trigger law and order problems in the valley.

The state government strongly denounced the controversial film saying such acts are aimed at causing discord among the people of different faiths.

"Such video clips cause great anguish among the peace loving citizens and posting of such video clips on the Social Media and Networking sites is not acceptable in any society and the government is making every effort to ensure that such video clips carrying blasphemous content are blocked and removed from the cyberspace," a government spokesman said.

The spokesman appealed to people to maintain calm and peace.

The low-budget film that originated in the US has led to protests in several Middle East countries, including a violent attack on a US consulate in Libya that claimed the lives of four Americans including the Ambassador.
