Jamshedpur: The Jharkhand Mukthi Morch has called for a bandh on December 7 in Jharkhand to protest against the life imprisonment sentence to JMM supremo Shibu Soren in the 1994 Shashinath Jha murder case.
Meanwhile, hundreds of JMM activists came out to the roads in party strongholds like Karandih and Mango areas soon after receiving the news of life imprisonment of JMM supremo Shibu Soren.
The activists led by JMM leader Bahadur Kisku staged a road block at Karandih. They shouted slogans against the judgment and also chanted slogans, saying "Shibu Soren Zindabad."
The activists also burnt an effigy of the CBI in protest and closed the shops and markets in the area. JMM supporters, led by central committee secretary Babbar Khan also took out a protest rally in Mango area and burnt tyres against the verdict of the court.
Khan said Soren, popularly known as Guruji, was convicted under a conspiracy and the party would move the higher court soon. Soren and four others were sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court on Tuesday for the murder of his former's secretary Shashinath Jha in 1994.
