Mumbai: Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna has collected Rs 72 crore worldwide in the first week of its release.
This is the best ever opening of any Indian film abroad, a release from Dharma Productions, the Karan Johar production house, said in a statement here on Sunday.
Giving details of the first weekend collections as reported by EDI-Nielsen, a UK-based network, the release said KANK which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherji and Preity Zinta, had opened at No 6 of UK charts collecting £754,877.
In the US, it collected $1,047,403 and opened at No 17 at the US charts. Similarly, in Australia, it collected $178,000 and opened at No 1 of limited release, that is prints less than 50, and No 5 of all releases.
In Singapore, KANK had collected $100,000 and in India it has opened to an average of 97 per cent all over, the statement added.
