Bintulu Development Authority, Sarawak, Malaysia has officially invited ‘Team Kerala-GOC’ to represent India at the eighth Borneo International Kite Festival. “They have been inviting us for the last two years but we could make to the fest only this time,” says Rajesh Nair, founder member of Team Kerala GOC.The club’s creations will dot the skyline of Malaysia along with teams from over 30 countries. “Our main highlight for the fest is our ‘Theyyam’ which is more than 20 ft in size, and we have been working on this kite for the past four weeks now. We have done applique work on it. The colour combination and the image of Theyyam is our own innovative creation,” adds Rajesh. For the kite fest, Rajesh will be accompanied by Suresh Babu, the secretary of the club. “Through ‘Theyyam’ kite we want to showcase Kerala and its folk arts. It is also to bring more tourists to visit our state,” adds Rajesh.Other kite attractions at the festival which will represent the cultural diversity of Kerala are ‘Nettipattam kite’, ‘Laughing kite’, ‘Shark kite’, ‘Parafoil kite’, ‘Octupus kite’ and ‘Rokkaku kite’ or ‘Lion kite’.
