THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Public Service Commission has extended the validity of the PSC ranklists till April 30, 2012.The decision which will have a deep impact on the job prospects of over 5000 rank- holders figuring in 485 ranklists was taken at a special meeting of the commission held on Friday.Fourteen members, including chairman Dr K S Radhakrishnan, attended the meeting.Three members were absent. The government had asked the commission to intimate its decision on the government’s request to extend the validity of the lists before 4 pm on Friday.Following this, commission held a special meeting. As the commission ‘s decision was delayed, the Cabinet meeting also got delayed.Earlier, the PSC had rejected the government’s request to extend the validity of the list which would have expired by December 31.The government took a tough posture saying that the commission comprising a majority of Leftist members was politicising the issue. The impasse had caught the attention of the media as well as the PSC rank-holders.Rank holders had organised a protest before the PSC headquarters for its ‘’insensitive’’ approach to the issue. They alleged that commission members were politicising the issue unmindful of the future of the rank-holders who were facing the risk of becoming overaged. However, Oommen Chandy’s open criticism against the commission drew a response from the commission members. They passed a resolution against the Chief Minister criticising the constitutional body.
