Bhagalpur (Bihar): A seven-year-old boy died a gruesome death after he was kidnapped by his neighbour, dumped inside a drum where rats ate away at his body and he suffocated.
The Bhagalpar Police told PTI that seven-year-old Roshan, the son of a railway employee was kidnapped by his neighbour Gurudev Sah and on the intervening night of January 11 and 12 from Buddhachak-Kacharia village.
According to PTI, Sah stuffed Roshan's mouth with a cloth, tied his hand and feet and dumped him into a wooden drum infested with rats and liberally sprinkled with pesticides.
PTI also quoted the police as saying that Roshan had died a few hours after he was abducted and though Sah knew this, he nonetheless rang up Roshan's father to demand a ransom of Rs two lakh for the safe return of his son.
Roshan's family informed the police about the frequent ransom calls being made to their house following which a phone caller identity machine was installed and the calls were soon traced to the house of Gurudev Sah, who was later arrested.
The PTI report stated that during interrogation, Sah admitted to have kidnapped the boy and said then dumping his body in a sugarcane field in the adjoining village to escape the police.
Four of the co-accused are currently absconding.
